CHAIL HILL STATION

It is known as the Honeymooners Paradise. It is located at an altiyude of 2,250 m above sea level. It was the summer capital of Patiala as Maharaja Bhupinder Singh decided to create his own summer capital. Shimla is only 45 km away from Chail. It has the world’s highest cricket pitch and polo ground. The beauty of Chail is breathtaking with its cultivation of pine and deodar trees. Chail is built on three hills, Rajgarh Hill, Pandhewa Hill and Sadh tiba namely. Shimla, Kasauli and Satluj Valley are vislble at night from here. The views of snow laden Himalayan ranges are unparalleled. Chail is also reputed as the Hikers heaven.

Major Attractions and Tourist Places of Chail

Chail Sanctuary: Chail sanctuary covers an area of 10,854 hectares. The wildlife contents of deodar trees and oak forest with grasslands cncase the township Chail. The sanctuary was notified on 21st March 1976.

Palace Hotel: It is a splendid mansion converted into a hotel. Forest of deodar and cedar trees covers the hotel from every side.

Gulaba-Bhrigu Lake : Bhrigu Lake is situated 8km south-east of the Rohtang Pass. This trek begins at Gulaba and it takes 6-8 hours to arrive at Bhrigu Lake. There are no options to find a good supply of food in this route, so trekkers are advised to carry along snack and water.

Cricket Ground: Chail Cricket ground is very well maintained. It is located at 7500 feet above sea level. The worlds highest ground is surrounded by pine and deodar trees. The ground is under the ownership of the Indian Army.

Maharaja’s Palace: This palace was built in 1981, with wonderful furnishing and luxury quotient. It is extended on 75 acres of land. There are a wide range of cottages, log huts, suites and rooms in the offering.

Sidh Baba ka Mandir : Chail has many religious places. Sidh Baba ka Mandir is one important place to visit. Lore has it that ‘Sidh’, a saintly person appeared in the Maharaja Bhupinder Singhs dream, who was planning to build a palace in that place, and declared the sanctity of the place. Maharaja followed through and Built a Mandir on that spot.

Sadhupul: Sadhupul is a popular picnic spot. It is a bridge above the Aswani stream. It is 14 km from Kandaghat.

How to Reach

By Air: Jubbar Hati airport is the nearest airport from chail, the distance is 63 km. Taxi service is available fro there to Chail. The airport is connected to Chandigarh and Delhi.

By Train: The recommended way to travel Kalka-Shimla track is by toy train. The Toy Train from Kalka takes approximately 5 hours to reach. Else the visitors can also opt for the road passage which is 40 KM from Shimla and 3 KM from the Chail town. Shimla can be reached via flight or train from the major cities. However, the Toy train journey is truly recommended that is bound to give the travelers a lifetime experience through the dense forest, sharp bends and several number of tunnels.

By Road: Chail is about 86 km away from Kalka if you go through Kandaghat. It takes an hour and a half from Kandaghat to Chail by road.

There are several well to do private as well as government resorts around this area, where comfortable stay is provided. Cottages and tourist lodges are available on affordable prices.

The climate of Chail is very pleasant and it is comfortable to visit here in any time of the year. Although during autumn Chail becomes very eye pleasing fields and forests filled with golden color.
