SHIMLA HILL STATIONS

Shimal was the summer capital of ‘British India’. This magnificent hill station was first discovered by the British in 1819. Following Independence, Shimla was initially the capital of the Punjab until the creation of Chandigarh. When the Punjab was broken into Punjab and Haryana, Shimla became the capital of Himachal Pradesh. In 1903 a rail line was built between Kalka and Shimla. Now tourism in Shimla is the base of economy in Himachal Pradesh.

The Mall: The Mall is a busy shopping area with throngs of holiday makers in the evening. The Mall road length is around 5kms starts in the west, at the gate of former Viceroy Lodge (Indian Institute of Advance Study) and ends at Chhota Shimla in the east. Here you can found various souvenir shops, restaurants, tourist offices etc.

Jakhu Temple: Jakhu hills are the most favourite spot in Shimla. This temple is situated at an altitude of 2455 meters, dedicated to Hanuman ji (Monkey God). This place offers excellent view of the valley surrounded by snow capped peaks. Jakhu Temple is 40 minutes walking distance from the Mall of Shimla.

Himachal State Museum: This museum has humble collection of stone statues. It opens daily 10am to 5pm. It is 1 hour’s pleasant walking distance from the Mall.

Chadwick falls: The falls are 8kms far from main Shimla. Its height is 67 meters and visiting only during monsoon season between - July to September. This place is surrounded by dense green forest.

Prospect Hills: This famous picnic spot is 5kms far from Shimla and 15minutes climb from Boileauganj.

Sankat Mochan: This is 7kms far from the Mall, visiting for the famous Hanuman Temple. Charming scenic view of Shimla is watchable from there.

Kufri: Kufri is 17kms far from the main Shimla. This place is winter sports capital. Every year a number of Ski sports enthusiasts reach here. Very clear view of snow capped Himalayan mountains one can watch from there.

Naldehra: This is one of the most picturesque place of Shimla, is famous for the mini Golf Course (9 holes). It is 23kms far from Shimla stand on 2044meters height.

Mashobra: This is situated 13kms far from Shimla. At the height of 2149 meters. This place is famous for the pleasant forest walk.
